If you have performed support to an Executive, please describe your experience.
Since administrative assistants typically do not require formal qualifications, experience is more important than education in this role. New administrative assistants also earn lower than average wages. Annual salaries gradually increase throughout the lifetime of an administrative assistant. On average, new administrative assistants make $8,000 less than their peers with 20 or more years of experience each year. As an administrative assistant, you are responsible for a variety of clerical and organizational duties necessary to maintain the effective, structured running of your employer's business. Your responsibilities may depend on your profession and the company you work for, but may include: welcoming and attending visitors to the workplace during their stay Answering telephone, email and social media inquiries and referring them to other employees when needed Form documents in the workplace, including letters and reports Handling incoming and outgoing mail
Many administrative assistants share offices or work independently in their own office spaces with a collection of other administrative professionals, usually located near an executive they assist. Administrative assistants usually have their own workstation on their desk and at least one telephone. They never share these workstations with other employees of the company. There are usually quiet, low-stress areas in which administrative assistants work in offices. Such workplaces, however, can sometimes become more challenging, such as close to deadlines or during tax seasons.
Many organisations, such as hospitals, which operate beyond traditional business hours may allow their administrative assistants to work on weekends, public holidays, and late at night. Often during the traditional business day, administrative assistants working these odd hours will have time off. For one of these businesses, working as an administrative assistant may suit people who prefer working nights or who have flexible lifestyles.
