Answer:

compression therapy:

compression therapy means socks or stockings that are specially designed to support your veins and increase circulation in legs. The socks or stockings are normally worn in the morning upon arising, and removed at night. Throughout the day the compression they provide prevents blood from pooling in leg veins, thereby helping overall circulation and diminishing any leg swelling

porpose of compression therapy :

1. compression therapy is a simple and effective means of increasing blood flow activity in the lower limbs through strengthening vein support.

2. These dressings work to slow stretch out vein wall and improve overall circulation, which in turn helps eliminate swelling.

3. Typical compression stockings are once put on allow for graduated constricted to begin at the ankle and working its way up the leg.

4. The socks or stockings serve as a replicated muscle, adding some pressure to contracting in the leg, allowing veins to loosen up and reduce pain in the lower limbs.

Nursing considerations while performing compression therapy :

1. compression bandages are applied using a spiral or figure-of-eight technique from base of the toes to below the tibial plateau.

2. Each turn of the bandage should be applied with equal tension and with a 50% overlap of the previous layer.

3. Ankle circumference will need to be ascertained to determined the number and type of bandage layer used.

4. Extra padding should be applied to bony prominence to reduce sub-bandage pressure and risk of local tissue damage or necrosis
