Santuary model of care :-
The Sanctuary Model is a non-hierarchical, highly participatory, “trauma-informed and evidence-supported” operating system for human services organizations. It which helps them function in a humane, democratic and socially responsible manner . It provide effective treatment for clients. The model is entirely different in that it is about working with people instead of doing things to them or for them.
It is called model because it is a set of interactive tools to change people's minds and the way people go about working together, thinking together, acting together, and living together. Santuary model is dependent on the ways in which groups of people implement the methodology .
As an organizational culture intervention, it is designed to facilitate the development of structures, processes, and behaviors on the part of staff, clients and the community . It t can counteract the biological, emotional, cognitive, social, and moral wounds suffered by the victims of traumatic experience and extended exposure to adversity.
It provides a structure and common language for people in human services fields to communicate and collaborate with each other.The goal of the Sanctuary Model is to facilitate the development of an organizational culture that can contain, manage, and help transform the life experiences that have an impact on the life of people. This requires the coordination of different people working for a common goal. People who present to human service delivery organizations have been exposed to significant adversity, chronic stress, and overwhelming trauma.
The Sanctuary Model came out of Bloom’s 30 years’ involvement in therapeutic settings. It was particularly her work from 1980 to 2001 in short-term, acute, inpatient psychiatric settings for adults traumatized as children.
Bloom and her colleagues developed and taught clients how to use the S.E.L.F. tool.
