1. The variations in health are associated with the demographic variable social class in many ways. People belonging to the same social class mostly have similar health conditions due to their comparable economic and social status. They will be having similar health issues/conditions related to the environment they live, the people they are associated with, their education, and the money they have or in other words the social class they belong to. This demographic variable has five classes; upper class, upper middle class, lower middle class, working class, and poor. Each class has several common conditions, which are important determinants in their health status. The health variations associated with the social class are quite evident right from birth onwards. When infant mortality or stillbirths are considered, the rate is very high in the poor class. This can be attributed to their financial condition, which is indirectly responsible for their lack of proper education, environment, and better healthcare options. Income is the main factor that decides the social class of a person and gives him access to better healthcare options. Contagious diseases are more common in people belonging to the poor class since they are exposed to these illnesses and cannot afford any preventive or cure measures. The mortality rate is very high in the poor class compared to others. When the case of the upper class is considered, many lifestyle diseases like hypertension, diabetes, obesity, hyperlipidemia, etc., are common among them. This results from very high income, which in turn leads to binge eating, unhealthy dietary habits, sedentary lifestyle etc., and the diseases resulting from these. Alcohol and substance abuse is common among the working class and diseases like liver cirrhosis is a common cause of death in this class. The lower middle class often pays less attention to health issues, because of their hectic lifestyle and it is not rare when a common cough and cold would lead to a disease like pneumonia leading to death. Many belonging to the poor and low-income cannot even afford insurances and this also makes a great difference in the quality of healthcare they receive.

2. In my opinion, additional research is necessary to further investigate this association. Even after sufficient funding for the healthcare sector, the mortality rate, contagious diseases, lifestyle diseases, fatal illnesses like cancer and other health conditions are different for different social classes. The disparity in health for different social classes needs to be assessed and investigated to resolve this age-old issue. The equal distribution of health is equally important as the distribution of wealth for a healthy society without any social class barrier. Additional research could provide a solution for this.
