There are serious issues that are related to short-sellers who peddle unproven accusations to push the price of the stock down. These actors are acting in their selfish interests and putting every other shareholder's interest in serious jeopardy to further their own gain.

Thus, the issue at hand is how a selfish group of people can actually put the interests of the larger community in danger just to gain monetarily. This type of action should be disincentivized through ensuring adequate checks and balances which prevent such wrongdoings. Another mitigate could be exercising very strong control on news related to stocks that are publicly listed or which have a large number of derivatives traded based on these securities.
