Answer-food plays an important role in our health. A balanced diet is must for leading a healthy lifestyle. A balanced diet must consist of 50-70% of carbohydrates, 10-30% of fats, 10-15 %of protein, and 2% fibers. A strict control of the diet is required for prevention of non communicable diseases

Indicators Recommend level

Threshold level of cholesterol 220mg/dl

HDL. >40mg/dl

Cholesterol/HDL ratio <3.5

Reduction of fat intake 20-30% of total intake

Consumption of saturated fats <10% total intake

Reduction of dietary cholesterol below 100mg per 1000kcal

Reduction of salt intake. 5g daily or less.

Measures for prevention/control of obesity

Dietary changes

1) proportion of energy dense foods such as simple carbohydrates and fats should be reduced.

2)fiber content in the diet should be increased.

3)adequate level of essential nutrients in low energy diet.

4)regular physical exercise.
