Discuss your views on ethics. How do you determine if something is ethical and do you believe that ethics are relative? Explain your views with examples.
I think ethics is always relative in any given situation and the environment in which it is taking place. To me principles and ethics are one in the same, and they too are based off of an individual’s response to the situation. Using reason, one can figure out a solution to an ethical dilemma that benefits the majority of parties involved. Taking for instant the current crisis in Iraq. ISIS members deem it not only ethical, but morally responsible to behead women and children, and anyone for that matter, that doesn’t adhere to their philosophy. This is something they believe to their core. Something that is a fundamental building block of who they are. Now, most people throughout the world see this as being morally wrong and unethical, based on the ideals of peace and prosperity that have come from years of war and turmoil.

As was discussed in the opening chapter and discussion, one basic difference in ethical views is between transcendent ethical theories (ethical principles are fixed and absolute and universal) and contingent theories (ethics is simply part of our changing natural lives). Does that basic difference in perspectives explain the difference between intuitionists and feelings theorists? That is, do intuitionists and feelings...
