The precautions and personal protective equipment required to care for this patient are

  • Isolating the patient from other non infectious ,immunocompromised, children's, elderly patients
  • Use of surgical mask,cap,gown and gloves.Discard when coming out of patient room
  • In case of very high risk a respirator can be used
  • Dispose the articles which are contaminated and cannot be autoclaved
  • Practice five rules of hand hygiene
  • Teach patient cough etiquette (using napkin it tissue when sneezing or coughing and washing hands
  • Restrict visitors

Social isolation related to viral infection as evidenced by fever, cough

Outcome:to ensure patient recovers from infection

Nursing Intervention and rationale

  • Strictly isolate the patient (This can prevent cross contamination and infection from one patient to other
  • Provide diversional therapy ,this can make the child not feel loneliness or boredom
  • The mother of the child can be made to visit frequently, this provides a secured feeling to the child

  • Meticulous hand washing
  • Use of blood and other products in a safe manner and discarding in the right way
  • The linens used by patient should be properly disinfected
  • Disinfect the environment periodically
  • Make sure the environment is not contaminated
