Answer #1

Question 1

Ordered dose of fluconazole on first day is 200 mg

Ordered dose of fluconazole on next 13 days is 100mg

Available dose of fluconazole is 10mg /ml

Thus on first day the nurse should administer 200/10=20 mL PO

similarly, the remaining 13 days the nurse should administer 100/10 = 10mL PO.

Thus the dose on day 14 of therapy will be 10 mL per oral .The question is asked for amount of medication on 20th day and the nurse does not have to administer the medication on day 20 as it is not advised. Thus the amount of medication to be administered on day 20 will be 0.00 ml

Question 2

Amount of lactulose prescribed in gm= 20 gm three times a day.

Concentration of the medication given = 10 gm/ 15 mL

Thus the volume of lactulose per one dose = 20gm = 30 mL

The volume of lactulose to be given in a day = 30mL x 3 = 90 mL

The patient has to take total 90mL of lactolose per day as three divided doses(TID)

Total volume of medication in the container = 1892 mL

Number of days one container of medication will last = 1892 / 90 = 21.02

So the bottle will last for 21 days before ordering another one.

Question 3

The amount of theophylline to be administered = 40 mg PO

Available dose of medication = 80 mg / 15 mL

Thus, the volume of theoplylline to be administered = 7.5 mL

One teaspoon = 4.92892 m L OR 5 mL

Thus, 7.5 / 5 = 1.5

The nurse should give 1. 5 or one and a half teaspoon of theophylline to the patient.
