Answer #1

ANSWER.

   * Calculation of ml/hr set the IV pump for loading dose.

            Formula = Volume /Time

            Ordered loading dose = 5.6 mg/kg.

               Patient weight = 50kg.

          So

             Dose required for the patient = 5.6 * 50

                                                            = 280 mg.

                 Available dose = 500 mg/500ml

          So

          Volume(ml) of drug required for the patient.

                             Formula = Desired dose / Dose in hand * Quantity

                                  Here

                                      Desired dose = 280 mg.

                                      Dose in hand = 500 mg.

                                           Quantity = 500 ml.

              So

                 Amount (ml) of drug required = 280 / 500 * 500

                                                                 = 0.56 * 500

                                                                 = 280 ml.

                                 Time = 30 min ( 0.5 hr)

                 As per formula

                     ml/hr set in IV for loading dose = Volume / Time

                                                                          = 280 / 0.5

                                                                            = 560 ml/hr.

* Calculation of ml/hr set in the IV pump for maintainance dose.

              Formula = Volume / Time.

          Ordered dose = 0.6 mg/kg/hr.

             Patient weight = 50 kg.

     So

         Dose required for the patient = 0.6 * 50

                                                         = 30 mg / hr.

                                Available dose = 500 mg / 500 ml.

            So

               Volume(ml) of drug required for the patient.

                         Formula = Desired dose / Dose in hand * Quantity.

                               Here

                         Desired dose = 30 mg.

                                     Dose in hand = 500 mg.

                                          Quantity = 500 ml.

                   So

                          Amount (ml) of drug required = 30 / 500 * 500

                                                                          = 0.06 * 500

                                                                          = 30 ml.

                                                  Time = 1 hr.

         As per formula

              ml/hr set in the IV pump for maintainance dose = Volume/ Time.

                                                                       = 30 /1

                                                                       = 30 ml/hr.
