Behaviour change theories/ models focuses on the explaination of why a behaviour change. They focus on various environmental, social and psychological factors that determine the behaviour of an individual, group or population. They do not atttempt to change the behaviour.

Persuasion theories/ models of communication attempts to change the behaviour, beliefs and perspective of target population. They try to influence and modify other peoples beliefs, values and attitudes. These theories are concerned with shifts in attitude.
