The medical information of the patient in an hospital is a very big issue to be handled to assess, verify and generalise the further treatment of him. For this the retention and destruction of the medical records plays a significant role.

The retention and destruction of the health records has the variability. If there is lack of this than the population inflow towards the hospital would be reduced. To deal with the proper retention of health recoreds:

* ensure the patient health information is available to meet the continued patient care, legal requirement research, education and other legitimate users of the organization

* including the guidelines that specify what information is kept,the time period for which it is kept and storage in which it would be maintained.

* the requirement of retention by each domain must be kept in mind such as federal record retention requirement, state record retention requirement, accreditation record retention and so on.

On the other hand the destruction of the health records includes the mode of destruction and must be containing the detailed information about it:

* date of destruction

* method of destruction

* description of the disposed records

* inclusive dates
