Discussion 2: Therapeutic Communication

As in my daily clinical experience , I usually come across many clients with different complaints and behavior. But most of my patients come from different places and their languages are different. On one day I was assigned to take care of a client who speaks Arabic. As i know English and other very few native languages, I didn't understand the language he speaks to me. He is asking me for some thing but due to language problem I am unable to get him. Then by using gestures I tried to ask questions and understood what he want and offered it. While providing diet I again got problem how can I ask him what he likes to drink either water / milk / any fruit juice then I tried using translate app in phone and I asked him to listen, by guestures I tried to know what he likes to have. To collect his data again I had problem this time his attender helped me. As his attender knows English and what information I want I asked him? His attender asked in their language and provided me required information. Some how I managed by guestures and given care to client. But I didn't expect, after recovery while the patient is leaving from hospital he came to see me and said thanks for taking care of him.

In communicating with client I used guestuers than verbal to analysize his needs I asked questions and confirmed his needs, preferences etc. By asking attender I used two way communication to gather information . I used observation method of communication to know the problems of client and solved them.
