For the middle-aged adult, exercise can reduce the risk of various health problems. Choose two at-risk health issues that regular physical exercise and activity can help prevent and manage. Discuss the prevalence of each of these health problems in society today. Describe measures that you would take as a nurse to assist clients with health promotion measures to incorporate exercise and physical activity into their lives. Include the kind of activities you would recommend, the amount of exercise, and the approach you would use to gain cooperation from the client. Support your response with evidence-based literature.

The importance of exercising regularly is known to us humans since long. But with the changes in the modern day lifestyle and working style the need to incorporate exercise is higher than ever. Exercising regularly has known to have benefits on our cardiovascular, muscles,skeletal, respiratory, neural and also immune system.

The two of many health risks that are wide present in the society that we focus now are diabetes and obesity. According to WHO global prevalence of diabetes is 8.5 % of adult population in 2014 as per 2016 it is the seventh leading cause of death worldwide. Also over 41 million children below age 5, 340 million children and adolescents between age 5-19 years and over 650 million adults over age 18 years are obese worldwide as in 2016 as per WHO. These two are the health risks where the patients can get benefited from regular exercise. As a nurse who is the direct point of contact with patients you should advice and motivate the patients to do regular exercise. You should first explain the nature of risk and how exercise can be proven beneficial to then. Also educate them regarding the nature and type of exercise training they should perform for maximum benefits. The exercise consists of strength and cardiovascular training. The first one focuses on building muscle strength, endurance while the second one focuses more on cardiovascular health and burning fat by raising the heart rate to certain levels. Both types should be incorporated for better results. We should encourage the patient to do minimum of 30 minutes workout for 5 days a week. The diabetes patients gets benefited by the reduction of sugar levels, increase in insulin sensitivity and increased circulation. In the obese patients it helps fat loss and weight reduction. These benefits were proven by many researches done worldwide in different countries and different climatic conditions.
