Lack of motivation in the workplace

There can be many reasons for an employee to feel demotivated in their workplace - work overload, organizational changes, difficulty in keeping up the deadlines, change in job role, poor appraisal, not-so-friendly working environment, poor communication, and bad co-workers and so on. As a result, they experience negative emotions and become frustrated and dissatisfied very easily.

some of the common signs are

  • loss of productivity
  • absenteeism
  • changes in the attitude and behavior

Common Techniques to improve motivation at work

  • offer Career development and advancement opportunities
  • better working environment
  • better team- leaders
  • Recognition and praise
  • raises and benefits

Recognition and praises

Irrespective of the fact that people are well motivated by material things, employees respond well to even recognition and praises. Recognizing high performers and appreciating and awarding them can work wonders in organizations. Employees should be acknowledged; that is, praise for work done quickly and efficiently especially before deadlines, and compensated for their works. Appreciate the employee and make them feel how well and efficient they did the job and provide frequent mini rewards if possible. Some times a formal appreciation in front of teammates or publicizing employee accomplishments across multiple forums such as company newsletters, dashboard, bulletin boards and in team meetings may do the job. Rewards can be in the form of raises and benefits too. Small frequent hikes, extra perks or extra vouchers, gifts and prizes, holiday rewards could definitely motivate workers and can not only increase productivity but also reduce rework and cost. it is even helpful in employee retentivity.
