Q1. The correlation coefficient is only calculated when both the variables i.e. X and Y share a linear relationship. In the given scatterplot we can observe that for the first half of the parabolic curve i.e. till X=0, the relationship is the opposite of what is after X=0. The slope of the best fit line changes from downward sloping to upward sloping. Hence due to its parabolic nature, we cannot deduce anything significant pattern from the scatterplot between X and Y. So the correlation coefficient is 0.
