Teen obesity is one of the growing health issues in many countries. In short, it is known as a stage when the weight of the child is above the normal range ( appropriate to their height and weight).

It is true that is there are some health issues related to this, they are:

1) High blood pressure:

  • when the body weight increase it creates stress inside the body organs
  • thus enabling the blood vessels to supply more blood
  • leading to elevated pressure.
  • In an adult, 120/80 mm/Hg is considered as normal but for teen, it is considered as high blood pressure.

2) Diabetic Mellitus:

  • then the children are obese there body has a tendency to resist insulin.
  • as a result blood sugar become high than the normal level
  • when trying to regulate the insulin level
  • thus leading to sugar.

3) Joint problems:

  • due to the overweight, the body cannot balance their weight.
  • start to give more pressure on their knees and hip while doing activities such as standing, walking.
  • as a result, the teens start to experience pain in the beginning and then lead to other health issues such as osteoarthritis.

4) Asthma:

  • due to obese, the chest wall experience hard for the muscles to perform a normal breathing pattern.
  • resulting in hard and difficult to breathe quickly, thus leading to not enough oxygen
  • thus suffering from asthma.

5) Cholesterol:

  • This is usually caused by poor dietary intake.
  • or in other word increase intake of saturated and junk foods.
  • this triggers the LDL leading to increased cholesterol level.

6) Heart disease and Stroke:

  • due to increased cholesterol level in the body.
  • it leads to the formation of plaque
  • which blocks the blood vessels
  • leading to heart problems

7) Low Self-esteem:

  • in this era, children love to be slim
  • when a child is obese they will be avoided by their friends and feels lonely.
  • which affect their social life and emotional health.

The impact on this group :

This problem can affect them in a more negative way than a positive manner because:

  • they will be socially isolated both from family and friends.
  • feels introvert
  • there are chances to humiliate them by people.
  • lack of motivation from others which can affect their academic badly.
  • these health issues develop a negative thought toward life.
