Answer #1

The correct answer is

b. 1.7 ml

Prescribed dose of omnipen is 30 mg/kg/day.

weight of patient is 68.2 kg.

Total omnipen per day is = 30 * 68.2 mg/day

which is 2046 mg per day.

This should be given in equal doses once in every 6 hours. That mean 4 doses per day and this drug should be divided into 4 equal volumes.

So drug to be administered in one dose is 2046/4 = 511.5 mg

The dose on hand is 1.5 g (1500mg). It should be reconstituted with 4.8 gm to yield 5 ml.

So 1500 mg drug is present in 5 ml. Which is 300 mg per ml of preparation.

511.5 mg drug is parent in 1.7 ml of the preparation. This should be added to IVPB to infuse.

So 1.7 ml omnipen should be added to the IVPB for one correct dose. This should be given 4 times per day.

This is a brief explanation. Hope this helps you out. Please feel free to give a like and contact us if you have any queries. Thank you and have a great day.
