Estimated Glomerular filtration rate of <60mL/min persists to the chronic kidney disease. It increases the albuminuria that impairs the function of the kidney. This result in an increase of the blood volume which increases the workload of the heart. Further hypertension increases the risk of the pressure in arteries and leads to damage of arteries. Thus the decreased glomerular filtration increases the risk of heart disease.

An individual may experience a low eGFR rate in case of

  • Dehydration
  • Hypovolemia
  • As age increases, the glomerular filtration rate decreases.
  • Intake of medication like anti-inflammatory, antibiotics, pain killer damages the kidney vessels.
  • impaired function of the kidney.
  • Hypertension
  • Diabetes leads to frequent urination that result in damage function and decreased eGFR.
