Performance appraisals are done to review the performance of an employee in a particular past period of time and also to assess his/her capabilities and capacity to deliver the work on time.

1. Relevance: Performance Appraisals must be relevant to the underlying job that an employee do and not to any other unprofessional items.

2. Acceptance: Performance Appraisals must be designed in such a way that they are accepted to all. Joint participation is needed for the preparation of these appraisals.

3. Stability and Consistency: Appraisals should be reliable in the sense that if an employee is assessed by two different persons then the final outcome derived by those two persons should be same.

4. A good Performance Appraisal is unbiased to all employees.

5. It helps in the improvement of an employee in terms of the job performance. Enhances the capabilities and skills.

6. Appraisals are helpful in determining employee promotion or giving them the salary hikes.

7. It helps in building a good work culture in an organization
