A facet of incentives and their connection to employee engagement is how they can play outside of work in the lives of the workers, as well as the bonuses employers receive as a result. Through incorporating benefits beyond the basics, such as well-being, health or leisure opportunities, workers can reconcile certain positive experiences with work. If an employee uses their restaurant card for a discount at dinner, they'll think of their employer; when they go with their family on a day of kayaking fun, the images and memories will remind them that work has allowed the fun.

Since rewards playing such a critical role in any phase of the employee's journey–from recruiting and retention to productivity and work satisfaction –this is not a consideration that can be overlooked in terms of employee experience. Adjusting your motivation-enhancing benefits doesn't have to mean a major redesign (potentially costly and time consuming). The expectation is that most firms have existing strategies that can easily be extended to improve profitability, employee satisfaction and attract talent.

Everybody will benefit from taking some time off every now and then. Organizations that want to help a happy workforce recognize this, and they provide flexible time-off plans that contribute to the work-life balance overall. Provide travel discounts, work holidays and community day excursions to allow employees to blow off steam.

Despite thousands of Baby Boomers leaving the workforce each day, the need for good retirement savings programs is high on many workers ' list of priorities. That is also valid for people in their 30s and 40s, because they're going to be busy making as much money as possible to improve pension funds. Companies should set up an automatic savings program for retirement and match 50 cents for every dollar that workers contribute to enhancing savings in retirement.
