When ever an individual faces a situation , the brain senses and judges the situation as stressful or not by the action of hypothalamus in brain.Hypothalamus inturn triggers adrenal medulla and pituatory gland.

The fight or flight response is a short term response through sympathomedullary pathway and Long term reponse is regulated by hypothalamic - pituitory - adrenal ( HPA) system.

So , autonomous nervous system and enndocrine system is activated as a stress reponse resulting in hormonal and physiological changes in the body which include:

Enhances mental activitity

Enhance the strength of your skeletal muscles

Increase heart rate

Shoot up sugar and fat levels

Slows down blood clotting time

Decreases intestinal movements

Limits digestive secretions and tears

Dilates Pupils

Constricts peripheral blood vessels
