Mystery:
Two, 7-year-old children go to the same school and are, in fact, first cousins through their mothers
who are twin sisters.. Both are growing up in the same extended family culture, and both are at risk for
becoming overweight during their childhood years. Both mothers attend a workshop on preventing childhood
obesity, and they make a pact afterward over lunch: they will work to protect their children from childhood
obesity. However, as time progresses, these two sisters experience very different reactions to snack times.
One child is taken off sugar, whereas the other child is not.
1. The child who receives no sugar begins acting out more. “Why is he more hyper?” the mothers
wonders, “when his body is free of sugar?” He also begins to develop a negative approach to nutrition.
What two pieces of advice might you offer these mothers?
Parents consider that when their child takes more sugar they are
hyperactive. sugar actually causes calming effects because it
secretes the chemical called serotonin that makes the feeling of
wellbeing. Advice mother that sugar is not one of the causes of
hyperactivity. the diet that the child consumes is a western diet
contain high total fat, refined sugar, saturated fat, fiber,
folate, omega 3 fatty acids that have a link with
hyperactive.
typically western diet impact lack of nutrients like iron, iodine,
vitamin D, vitamin B12, calcium, vitamin A, magnesium. nutrition
deficiency occurs when the body does not get enough nutrients. It
is not that eating less sugar provides more energy and gets enough
nutrients. Actually the child is taking the western diet and low
intake of sugar cause obesity and gets caloric imbalance. added
sugar in her diet lacks essential nutrients and it does not produce
enough energy and stimulate growth.
