Calgary Family Assessment Model is an integrated multidimensional framework which is widely used among nurses for assessing a family inorder to resolve issues in the families. By this a family can prevent and solve health issues and related problems. It aims for a full understanding and unbiased view of a family and strengthening of values and goals of a family.

A family with chronic diabetes can be a clinical example. Inorder to assess the family the structure is breakdown in to internal, external and context. The nurses develop questions to family that allows to get an idea of who is considered family, what is the connection among family members and those outside family. Every areas of the members is assessed like gender, rank order, sexual orientations, subsystems, boundaries etc.
