A 56-year-old patient with newly diagnosed stage I hypertension has been referred to you for counseling regarding lifestyle modifications. He is married with four children; two in high school, two in college. His job as a senior vice-president for a major retail chain requires that he work long hours and frequently eat at restaurants. He smokes two packs of cigarettes a day, has a body mass index (BMI) of 29 kg/m2, and a waist–hip ratio of 1.6. He usually drinks one to two dry martinis to relax after he gets home from work.

In your initial post answer the following questions:

  1. How would you develop a realistic plan to help this patient reduce his blood pressure and prevent complications?
  2. Which risk factors would be among your top two or three priorities for this patient, and what interventions or recommendations would you provide for modifying these?

He must develope the habit of doing exercises and walking.Doing exercise is good for the body it helps to prevent various complications.people with hypertension have increased cholesterol levels.This fat deposition cause severe ill health and can even cause death.This fat particles can occulde the artery that stops the blood supply to the particular part.Suppose it occuldes the coronary artery that cause MI it results in death.So the initial priority is performing exercises that helps to reduce the fat burns in the body.Top three are the smoking,liquor drinking and frequent eating at restaurants.Interventions are he himself do self control to reduce or stop the smoking and liquor drinking habit.If it is not possible then he can meet some special units or specialist to completely get relief from that.Frequently eating at outside is not good.Due to his work he can't refuse this so he must can food options in a healthy way such as salads,fruit juices and milkshakes likewise rather than eating cheesy and oily dishes.
