Your neighbors are living in same place for the last five years. Recently they traveled back to Sudan their home country. Upon their return they invited you to their home to share a meal and watch some home made videos about their journey. During your visit you notice one of the child is continuously coughing and has had fever. During conversation you discover this child as well as one more adult have been suffering from similar symptoms. The family also mentions to you that at the port of entry into USA they were asked if they are feeling well or have had fever? The told Immigration officers that they were well. They were fearful that if they said anything different they may have to return back to Sudan. What do you do? Do you have a responsibility to report their case to Immigration department? What do you with their health challenges? What will you do if they are deported back to Sudan? Do you have any responsibility? (2) Next day you were watching news on television and see that government has had made an announcement that each one entering USA from Ebola affected countries like Sudan must disclose their health status. Now that you know that there is a chance that your neighbor may have potential exposure to Ebola. What do you do? How do you protect yourself as well as other neighbors?

Answer #1

This case has to be reported for sure because it is not a concern of single individual but the society. I have the responsibility to report to the immigration department. As there is a chance of viral outbreaks because the immigration officers asked about their health issues and even i have seen the child and the adult is continuously coughing and have fever.

There are so many health challenges that the individual and society faces as a consequence of viral outbreak by the immigrant. The harmful pathogen arrived can make a big tragedy as the spread occurs. The hospital may get filled as the patient get isolated. As it is a concern of society’s health we should give great consideration. The country government will take necessary precautions regarding health issues of people. They should be better send to Sudan after giving primary health services.

2) I will search on official government site which provide details on ebola related travel regulations or restrictions and inform the appropriate authorities regarding the issue.

Best way to avoid ebola is to stay away from the viral environment.

isolate the victims and those who shows related symptoms for the diagnosis and confirmation of disease.

Personal protective equipment should be used.

As the spread is by droplets better take droplet precautions like use of mask and gloves.

The person who come in contact with the patient should use impermissible garments which is single use.
