B) Report of the survey findings:
The survey conducted unveiled the use of vitamins in the general population for a sample size of five. It also revealed the type and amount of each vitamin used along with the recommended person. For this survey different age groups including children and older adults were considered and it was found that the percentage of vitamin use was 100. Every person from the 7-year-old to the 67-year-old was found to be using vitamin prescribed by PCP, orthopedist, or pediatrician. They were using vitamin A, vitamin B12, vitamin B12, vitamin E, and vitamin D supplements.
The use of vitamin supplements was found to be unnecessary in 80% of the people surveyed. Only 20%, which included the older adults have the necessity of taking vitamins in the form of supplements. Others have the option of fulfilling their vitamin requirements with a healthy well-balanced diet. Studies have found that nutrients from food are related to lower death risks and it is a healthier way. Increased nutrition level as a result of vitamin supplement intake is also harmful to the body. Proper absorption of vitamin supplements is uncertain but vitamins from whole food are well-absorbed by the body.
In the case of older adults, the scenario is different as they are not getting enough nutrition from diet alone. So the use of vitamin supplements should be restricted to such cases rather than prescribing a vitamin to everybody. Such an indiscretion in prescribing and using vitamins to each and every person would only lead to some other new disease condition, which would be an added burden to the medical world.
