Allergy regimen

It includes systemic corticosteroid and antihistamine.

Systemic corticosteroids :It consists of drugs like hydrocortisone, dexamethasone, betamethasone, prednisolone etc. Commonly used are hydrocortisone and dexamethasone which are used intravenously .Hydrocortisone 100mg iv stat followed by every 8hourly for 3 to 5 days. It is short acting corticosteroid, but it is quick aching. Dexamethasone is given at a dose of 8mg if stat followed by 8hourly for 3 to 5 days. It is long acting but the onset of action is slow. In both cases tapering should be done with oral prednisolone.

Antihistamine usually used is pheneramine maleate. Orally at a dose of 25mg thrice daily can be used. Frequency of administration can be reduced depending on the severity of symptoms. For quick relief intravenous administration of pheneramine maleate should be given. Other antihistamine can also be used like cetrizine, levocetrizine, fexofenadine, loratidine .

Topical application of steroid ointment can be useful like mometasone, betamethasone, clobetasole.
