Parkinson's disease is affected by stress as both the onset and the worsening symptoms are associated with stress. The occurrence of a stressful event such as a major operation, a head injury or the diagnosis of another condition, such as thyroid disease is associated with the onset of tremor of Parkinson following such event. Coping with stress is very useful in managing and delaying the progression of the diseases and the onset. This requires; planning ahead and asking other people for help.

Parkinson's disease affects stress and coping as the very diagnosis of Parkinson's may lead to stress as it brings along with it anxieties, worries, and uncertainties about the future. This reduces our coping with the adversities of life in general as one is worried of becoming paralyzed gradually in life.
