MATERNAL MORTALITY RATE: women who died or who were dead on arrival in hospital during pregnancy or within 6 weeks of the pregnancy.

Various research studies have shown that an estimation of 60% of the maternal mortalities are preventable, however hundreds of mothers still die because of lack of access to proper healthcare services. In Saudi Arabia, the maternal mortality rate(MMR) is 12 for every 100,000 live births whereas in 1992, the MMR was 18 per 100,000 births ( 880,250 deliveries and 155 maternal deaths were reported). The leading cause of the maternal deaths was due to hemorrhage ( antepartum and postpartum) along with other complications like uterine rupture and abortive bleeding.

MEASURES TO CONTROL MATERNAL DEATHS: There been a huge changes  made in the maternal mortality from the past by providing adequate medical facilities but yet changes have to be done to reduce the maternal mortality rate in Saudi Arabia. To control this, I suggest

a) Blood banking services b) Surgical facilities.

Blood banking facilities:

As I aforementioned above, hemorrhage is the leading cause of the death in maternal mothers. As a solution to this, the people in the Saudi Arabia should have the access to adequate healthcare and blood banking or storage facilities in case of any emergencies. This facilities should be made based on the accessibility, affordability and availability of the resources.

Surgical techniques: Another needed access is immediate care to reduce the maternal mortality rate. Skilled professional training and improved healthcare facilities like continuous monitoring of the mother after the surgery reduce the maternal mortalith rate to some extent.
