Road traffic accidents have become one of the leading cause of death in Saudi Arabia and accident mortality rate in Saudi Arabia is around 9%. It reveals an average of 20 deaths daily . Experts predicts that if the current rate of accident mortality continues, the kingdom may have 4 million traffic accidents a year by 2030. Currently the statistics reveals that there is a death rate of 26.8 for every 100,000 people.

Keeping all these in mind the transport ministry is taking a lot of precautionary measures and efforts to bring down the death rates to one for every 100000 people. If it is possible to bring it down , they will be able to save the lives of 2400 people by the year 2020. The mayor of the Eastern province says that a traffic accident on the kingdom's road every minute causes an annual loss of more than SR20 billion . As per the survey it shows that usage of phone is one of the main cause for road traffic accidents in Saudi Arabia.

Measures to control it:

1. As a precautionary measure, they should implement that the motorists who use mobile phone for talking or texting would be severly punished.

2. The traffic rules can be modified in such a way that there should be high fine for overspeed and the speed limit should be reduced and also this should be applied equally for both men and women drivers.
