Eugenics is a term used to describe the science of bettering a population based on new advances and technology. In the medical field, there are a lot of new medical advances that help people in many way such as DNA, stem cell research, amniocentesis, and reproduction. The topic I pick to discuss is amniocentesis. Amniocentesis is done to detect certain conditions such as Down Syndrome. However, the procedure can be complicated and put the fetus at risk. Once an amniocentesis is done and results show positive, pregnant women are given the option to continue with pregnancy or arrange an abortion. The ethical issue regarding this subject is if they fetus is considered a human. In addition, this test is done for higher risk pregnancy. I can’t choose wither I support this or not because I think there are circumstances to each situation.
