Answer #1

Answer 4

a)Given

Total volume :1L (1000ml)

Time of transfusion :8 hours

Rate of transfusion :125ml/hour(in 1 hour 125ml is transfused,so in 1 hour it is 250ml,and in 4hours 500ml and in 8hours, 1000ml is transfused,therefore the infusion will run for 8 hours

Flow rate = Total volume ×15÷Time of transfusion×60

=1000×15÷8×60

=31.25 or 31 drops per minute

b)Given

Weight:73kg

Dose:5mcg/kg/min

Nacl 9%=500ml

Dobutamine=250mg

(i)when 1kg=5mcg

Then 73 kg=??

365mcg/min (73×5÷1) is the required dose.

(ii)As 500ml 9%NaCl=200mg (2000mcg)

1ml=??

=0.4mg(400mcg)

The concentration of dobutamine is400mcg/ml

(iii)Flow rate =Total volume ×15÷Total time ×60

=500×15÷1×60

=125drops /min

As 1 drop =0.05ml

125drop=6.25ml

In 1min=6.25ml

So 60min=??

=355ml/hr (60×6.25%1)

c)Given

Medication :Digoxin

Dose:125mcg

Route:Oral

Available Digoxin elixir :50mcg/ml

125mcg=?? ml

=2.5ml (125×1÷50)

2.5 ml should be drawn up to get the required dose

d)Given

Medication : Calcium gluconate

Dose:2gm

Route:IV

Available :10ml ampoule calcium gluconate (10%)

As 1gram =10ml of calcium gluconate

So 2gram=?? ml

=20ml has to be drawn up.
