Answer: Pressure injury of pressure ulcer occurs due to excessive pressure occurs to the particular area of the body which causes pressure on the blood circulation, hence lowers the blood flow to that particular area.

Some of the causes of pressure injury:

  1. Being in the same position for a long duration or very little movement due to injury or surgery etc.
  2. Friction or rubbing of the skin, (for example against sheets)
  3. Dehydration and poor diet
  4. Continuous exposure to the moisture, ie. moist skin for example, due to sweating or incontinence
