Alternative health interventions

complementary or alternative interventions in health which are comprehensive Health approaches which are not the part of traditional medicine system and it's practices. Now it is effective and accepted to some extent. These alternative health interventions system are categorised mainly under 5 domains.

Alternative medical system, mind-body intervention, biologically based treatments, manipulative and body based treatment and energy therapies.

What influences them to adopt traditional heath intervention?

Generally the patients of chronic diseases tend to adopt alternative therapies.

  • Lengthy expensive treatment under convention medicine will encourage the patients and their relayives to think about less expensive alternative therapies
  • Lack of sound economic background is the major influence on people to switch over to these kind of therapies
  • People are attracted to their fake testimonials without much probing into it and states to adopt it
  • Sometimes the alternative therapies can induce immediate some relief which are mistaken by the patients and continuing treatment and sometimes worsen the condition

Outcome

The relatives who adopted alternative therapies under end stage chronic illness starter to approach indigenous therapies and Yoga practices for mental well being. They said that the yoga practice makes the patient very much better to deal or accept health condition of oneself and be prepared for next outcome and seems to be happy and relieving anxiety and stress.

My opinion on this

  • Alternative therapies are complementary to the traditional medicine system and not more than that.
  • These therapies can be employed to relieve associated symptoms like stress and anxiety associated with diseases, side effects associated with treatment systems etc. But it cannot be more than that.
  • Because there is less scientific evidence and much of the alternative intervention are not scientifically proven.
  • I don't believe that these alternative therapies are completely blunt, first require scientific back up.

Professional recourse on this

  • I recommend patients to adopt if they want to, should be thoroughly awared on these types of treatment These treatment are under verification process and for do not blindly depend on them, which sometimes, worsen the situation
  • . Initially patients may feel some relief nut it may not be sustainable. Dont believe in fake testimonial.
  • It must be scientifically proven and should conduct epidemiological studies on the success rates of the traditional practices.
