The Older Americans Act is a service provider critical Community based home delivery and congregate meals , family caregiver support , in home assistance , preventive health services , transportation , job training , protection from abuse , and other supportive services .That help about 11 million older adults to stay independent.

Therefore American aging agencies offer a wide range of services and support to targeted assist older adults and increasingly people of all ages with disabilities live independently in their homes and communities.

As health care shifts towards more creative and holistic models of care , there are opportunities for CBSS staff i.e community based supports and services and primary care clinicians to collaborate towards the goal of maintaining OAA.

OOA funding is relatively small especially compared to Medicaid , which spent roughly $ 136 billion on long term services and support S. However , medicaid serves low income people with minimal assets.

Thus many seniors are ineligible for Medicaid but can not afford the cost of LTSS on their own . Congregate setting as senior centers and adult day centers , home delivered meals , sometimes refferedrto as meals on wheels and nutrition counseling . OOA provides part time community service employment training to low income unemployed people age 55 and above. Almost a quarter of OOA federal funding goes to the senior community service Employment program.

Maintain the health and well being of the elderly based on community care , prevent them from getting sick , help them care for minor health problems and long term conditions and make sure they recover from illnesses and hospitalization. Different cultures have different attitudes towards the aging population and there are many ways to help the elderly and vulnerable in your local community . It can boost self esteem and your sense of purpose so its great for everyone to be involved.
