Answer #1

14. Ordered dose 2 mg/min of lidocaine hydrochloride.

250ml of D5W contains 500mg of lidocaine hydrochloride.

Then 500mg + 250ml = 2mg/ml

It means 1 ml of D5W contains 2 mg of lidocaine hydrochloride.

Order dose was 2mg per minute then, 60minute x 2mg = 120mg /hr

It means the patient needs 120 mg per hour. 1 ml contain 2 mg and 60 ml contain 120 mg of lidocaine hydrochloride.

Answer a. Iv pump would be programme for 60ml/hr

Answer b. The formula for drop calculation is Total Volume = time x drop factor

60ml = 60min x 60gtt/ml = 60drops/min

So, iv flow rate will set for 60 drops per minute.

No 15.

Order dose 0.35 mcg/min means, 0.35mcg x 60minute = 21mcg/hr

250 ml D5W contains 575mcg of alprostadil.

Drop factor 60 gtt/ml

So, 0.43 ml of D5W contains 1 mcg of alprostadil. 250ml = 575mcg=0.43ml

So, 21mcg is in 9ml 21mcg x 0.43ml = 9.03ml

According to the formula of drop calculation 9ml - 60min x 60gtt/ml = 9drops/min

Answer is the flow rate will be set for 9 drops/min
