Choose a behavior that a public health worker would likely work with, and conduct a brief literature review. Select an audience for whom the behavior is a problem. Describe how the building blocks from one of the theories could be applied to a health promotion program for your chosen audience. When doing this, list each building block of the theory, and define it within the context of the problem you wish to address. Then, brainstorm and develop a number of behavior change techniques that could be used to make changes in the building block.

Answer #1

Smoking is one of the most common behaviour among the male population . It's a behaviour which impacts the health of an individual. The audience whom I choose will be the young teenagers who smoke for pleasure . It's there germinating time, if we stop them here itself , it would be very much beneficial for them . These youngest era get trapped by their peer group in these kind of activities and becomes difficult for them to get rid of it .

I will choose the Transtheoretical behavioural theory to accomplish the change in behaviour . It assesses an individual's readiness to act on a new healthier behavior, and provides strategies, or processes of change to guide the individual through the stages of change to Action and Maintenance.

The six stages of the Transtheoretical model of behavior change

Precontemplation,

Contemplation

Preparation,

Action

Maintenance,

Termination

Stages :-

Precontemplation

Not Ready-"People are not intending to take action in the foreseeable future, and can be unaware that their behaviour is problematic"

Contemplation

Getting Ready-"People are beginning to recognize that their behaviour is problematic, and start to look at the pros and cons of their continued actions"

Preparation

Ready-"People are intending to take action in the immediate future, and may begin taking small steps toward behaviour change.

Action

"People have made specific overt modifications in modifying their problem behaviour or in acquiring new healthy behaviours"

Maintenance

"People have been able to sustain action for a while and are working to prevent relapse"

Termination

"Individuals have zero temptation and they are sure they will not return to their old unhealthy habit as a way of coping"

Along with this main behaviour change model I will use the different behaviour management methods such as :-

- managing the environment

- prompting

- caring gesture

- hurdle help

- redirection

- proximity

- planned ignoring

- directive statement

- time away

All these will be used by me to change the behaviour of the young teenagers those who are prone to smoking and more stree will be put on the maintenance part so that relapse does not happen .
