In this learning plan you explored diseases and disorders of the both the eye and ear. You were asked to attempt to understand life as visually impaired or hearing impaired person would. Write a paper that addresses at least two diseases or disorders that would cause visual impairment and at least two diseases or disorders that would cause hearing impairment. Include how these four total diseases or disorders are contracted (age related, genetic, infection, etc) and what treatment options would be available to the patient.

Here I am presenting two disorders which causes visual impairment.The first one is Glaucoma. It is the group of age related eye disorders that cause damage to optic nerve, which carries information from brain to eye. It first causes peripheral vision loss and later leads to blindness. It is associated with elevated intraoccular pressure. Now it is a leading cause of irreversible blindness. It can be diagnosed only with regular eye examination. Because it have no symptoms initially. While everyone is at risk for glaucoma, certain people are at more. The major risk factors are age over 45 years, family history of glaucoma, hyperopia, nearsightedness, use of steroids, decrease corneal thickness. Eye drops are usually first line treatment for glaucoma. Laser or surgery are sometimes first choice too.

Age rekated macular degeneration is the leading cause of severe vision loss in adults above 50 years of age. It occurs when ther are changes in maccula, a small portion of retina It isa loss of central vision. It can be two forms dry and wet. The symptoms are gradual loss of ability, shape of objects distorted, straight lines look wavy or crooked, loss of clear vision. No cure for dry AMD loss in central vision cannot be restored. For wet AMD laser treatment called photo coagulation is the treatment of choice.

Next I am going to explian about hearing impairment. Hearing loss can be occur in both eats. I TV csn be occur due to genetics, ageing, exposure to noise and due to some chronic infection to the ear. Tgere are four types of hearing loss, ayditory processing disorder, conductive hearing loss, sensorineural hearing loss, mixed hearing loss. It can be treated not restored. It can be treated with hearing aids. Some can use implants and surgery.

In my own opinion ,eye and ear disorders are more common in adults over 50 years .some disorders can be diagnosed earlier but some can notbe .so the lifestyle and nutrition has plays a major role in maintaining optimal status of health. Correct and appropriate treatment can reduce these impairments at an extent.
