Self esteem is the belief a person have about themselves in terms of their importance, functions and worthiness. A person during his young age will be very active and he will be able to do all his activities by himself. He will not be dependent on anyone. So he will be very happy, confident and satisfied and will feel worthy about himself.

When he becomes old he faces many physiological, emotional and psychosocial issues which makes him to lose his self esteem.

Physiological changes are, when a person becomes old, their eye sight will decrease, hearing ability will decrease and the ability to do the activities of daily living will decrease. The person will be dependent on someone else which leads to low self esteem of a person.

When a person reaches 60 years of age, his self esteem lowers as he becomes more sensitive and become like a child. He feels that no one is taking care of him and sometimes behaves like a kid. The person becomes less active and if proper support is not there, it leads to low sellf esteem.

Losing the spouse or any valuable person or things will lead to low self esteem. When a person becomes old, and when their children got married, they will not be involved in decision making that leads to low self esteem.

When a person is healthy and when they are surrounded by people who support them, their self esteem will be high. But after 60 years of age their self esteem will naturally be less.
