The nurse can provide intervention for breastfeeding in the following way

  • Educate the mother about the benefits of breastfeeding self and the baby
  • Inform about the disadvantages of lack of breastfeeding in future like formation of painful lumps,fever,redness tenderness in breast, cancer
  • Teach the mother about the Brest feeding techniques
  • Provide psychological support to make the mother feel confident
  • Ensure a bond between mother and the baby is established
  • The mother can be encouraged to use the nursing dresses,bra,breast pump etc.,
  • Encourage the mother to gradually increase the time of breastfeeding
  • Counselling can be given to mothers who have post natal depression
  • The education regarding this can be initiated from pre natal period and to be continued in post natal period
