Answer #1

ANSWER.

5) a) Amount(gm) of drug the patient receive daily.

Amount of drug patient receive per hour = 100 mg.

      So

Amount of drug patient receive per day or 24 hr = 100 * 24

                                                                                  = 2400 mg.

b) How many ml/hr required for the patient to get appropriate dose.

Total daily volume(24hr) of IV solution = 2000 ml.

      So

ml/hr required for the patient to get appropriate dose = Total volume/Time

                                                                                     = 2000/24

                                                                                     = 83.33 ml/hr.

c) Flow rate in ml/min.

        Flow rate = Volume(ml) / Time(min).

               Total volume(ml) = 2000 ml.

                      Time(min) = 24hr.

                                       = 24 * 60 minute

                                       = 1440 min.

        Flow rate = 2000 / 1440

                        = 1.39 ml/min.

d) Flow rate in drops per minute.

           Drops per minute(gtt/min) = Volume(ml) / Time(min) * Drop factor(gtt/ml)

       Here

           Volume(ml) = 2000 ml.

             Time(min) = 1440 min.

     Drop factor = 15 gtt/ml.

As per above formula

      Drops per minute = 2000/1440 * 15

                                    = 1.39 * 15

                                    = 20.83 gtts/min.

e) How many ml of IV fluid patient receive in 5 hr.

Amount(ml) of IV fluid patient receive in 1 hr = 83.33 ml

    So

      Amount(ml) of IV fluid patient receive in 5 hr = 83.33 * 5

                                                                             = 416.65 ml.

f) Amount (mg) of drug patient receive in 3.5 hr.

Amount(mg) of drug patient receive in 1 hr = 100 mg.

So

   The amount(mg) of drug patient receive in 3.5 hr = 100 * 3.5

                                                                         = 350 mg.
