Addiction -
The term “addiction” refers to chronic psychological and physical dependence on a drug or substance that is beyond voluntary control. The drugs causing addiction generally cause various adverse effects on both the body and mind.
Substance-induced disorders:
They are the mental disorders or disturbances caused by the withdrawal of a particular substance from using. For example, the sudden withdrawal of barbiturates causes tremors, sleeplessness, anxiety and other withdrawal symptoms
Substance-Abuse Disorders:
The term “substance abuse” refers to the misuse or overuse of mood-altering drugs such as alcohol, amphetamine, cocaine, and similar drugs. This condition is commonly observed in about 10% to 14% or patients requiring primary care. However, less than 10% cases are detected and treated appropriately.
The substance abuse with prescription medications is most likely in young adults (18 – 25-year-old), with 13% nonmedical usage of prescription drugs, while this percentage is 7% in 12-17-year-olds and 4% in 26 years and older people (middle-aged and older).
Intoxication:
Taking a substance in toxic doses or in larger doses that is toxic to the body. For example, alcohol intoxication
Detoxification:
The process of metabolizing toxins or other chemicals such as drugs into their inactive o less active products.
