Erectile dysfunction refers to flaccid male genital organs (located externally) instead of being hard,firm and erect during an intercourse

The medical management for erectile dysfunction are

• Medication which stimulates the erection are prescribed (Sildenafil) .The erection can last up to 60 minutes
• Alprostadil ( injection and suppository) can be used in the patient .Both are little discomfortable but the erection starts from 10 minutes lasting into 60 minutes.
• If medication doesn't help ,testosterone replacement therapy are used yo treat it

Some of the nursing implications are

• Provide psychological support ,that it has a better treatment options
• Encourage to quit smoking,alcohol,drugs because this will decrease the testosterone production
• Teach patient about how to use the pump specially designed for erection
• Mild exercises in daily activity can be followed
• Avoid any accidental injury during sports,playing ,in workplace by taking appropriate preventive measures
• Inform patient to wear loose,breathable cotton under garments ,because tight under garments will press the testis and in long run can caise headache and other related problems.
• Treat the patient with self respect and dignity ,as treating for other medical conditions
