2. Acyclovir ordered dose is 350 mg . The supply provides 500mg vial which is reconstituted with 10ml sterile water and further diluted in 100ml D5W .

So, the total volume becomes 110 ml which contains 500mg of acyclovir .

Total time to infuse = 1hour

= Flow rate = Total volume / total time

500mg of acyclovir is present in 110 ml of solution

1mg will be present in 110/500

350g of acyclovir will be present in 110 / 500 × 350

= 77ml / hour

3. The available vial of Neupogen is 300mcg / ml

Means 1 ml of the available suspension has 300mcg of Neupogen

The orderd dose is 300mcg of Neupogen ,so 1ml of the suspension will be given to the patient

4. Weight of the patient is 100lbs = 100×0.45 = 45kg

Ordered dose of Epogen is 100units / kg three times a week

= 100units × 45 = 4500 units

Available vial is labelled as 4000units /ml , means 1ml has 4000units of Epogen .

Using unitary methods :-

4000 units of Epogen is present in 1ml

1unit of Epogen will be present in 1/4000ml

Then 4500 of Epogen will be present in 1/4000× 4500

= 1.12ml will have 4500units of Epogen

5. Ordered dose of vancomycin is 800mg

Available supply of vancomycin is 1gm vial to be reconstituted with 10 ml of NS and further diluted in 100ml D5W .

Total time to infuse - 60mins

Flow rate = total volume / total time
