Lung cancer causes the most severe distress in patients than the other types of cancers. Altered lung functioning in lung cancer also alters the functioning of other vital organs due to the reduced oxygen availability to the tissues. Poor symptomatic management of lung cancer directly contributes to the heavy burden, which affects the caregivers to a great extent. This is particularly intense with the progression of the disease.

Various studies reported that the partners of lung cancer patients express more distress and low quality of life from the time of diagnosis. The care providers experience a transition process, which also includes altered relationships. So the clinicians should also develop interventions to support the caregivers along with the patients.
