Staphylococcus bacteria are an opportunistic pathogen which can survive under extremes salt, pH, temperature, and desiccation due to following features:

  • It has ability to be extremely changed in the unfavorable osmotic pressure conditionsdue to various osmoprotectants like choline, betaine, as well as proline
  • The salt tolerance occurs due to its genetic composition of brnQ and arsR (arsenic operon regulator gene). The cardiolipin contents fascilitate it to be salt tolerant
  • Also the phospholipid content of the Staphylococcus bacteria enables it to flourish in the condition of the pH, temperature, dessication and osmolarity change.
