The Global fund

The Global fund is a global organisation, which has been working most effectively in funding the malaria pandemic. Malaria is a disease spread by mosquito; the causative agent is a protozoan, Plasmodium, which multiplies in the blood every few days.

The Global fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria is a non-profit organisation , working for ending the devastating diseases AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria as epidemics.

Funding methodology

The Global fund invest more than 4 billion US dollars to end AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria as endemics. It has adapted a funding cycle that will renew for every 3 years. They will allocate this funds to eligible countries. Allocation of funding to each country is based on the economic level and disease burden. The Global fund is a partnership to mobilize and invest funds for the programmes to support the ending of AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. The funding methodology has five phases.

1) Raise the money ( 95% from donor Governments and 5% from private sectors)

2) Countries make investment decisions ( develops plan to fight the diseases)

3) review and approval ( reviews plan to determine if it will achieve results)

4) Implementation of programmes by local experts

5) Monitoring the implementation by local fund agents.

Why it is effective.?

The Global fund saves 27 million people through the global fund partnership. They distributed 197 million mosquito nets in 2017 as the malarial preventive measure. The Global fund provides preventive, treatment and care services to millions of people and strengthening the local health systems. Studies show that the number of children dying with malaria reduced to half by mosquito preventive measures and treatment strategies implemented through Global funding.
