Answer #1

11.Formula to calculate IV flow rate=Total Volume (ml)÷Time (min)×drop factor

Here

Total volume :100ml

Time:20min

Drop factor :15gtt/ml

Therefore

=100÷20×15

=75

Ans:75gtt/min

12.Given

Medication :Heparin

Dose:900units/hr

Available :10000units/500ml D5W

As 10,000u=500ml

Therefore 900u=??ml

Cross multiply and divide

=45ml(900×500÷10000 )

Ans:45ml/hour

13.Given

Order:Heparin

Dose :1000u/hr

Available 40,000 units/1L D5W

That is 40000 units=1000ml D5W

So to administer 1000units =??ml

Cross multiply and divide

=25 (1000×1000÷40000)

Ans:25ml/hr

14.Given

Medication :Heparin

Rate :28ml/hr

Available :20,000u heparin =500ml D5W

That is 20,000 units=500ml

So to calculate the dose of 28ml=??units

Cross multiply and divide

=1120 (28×20,000÷500)

Ans:The patient is receiving an hourly dose of 1120 units
