Answer #1

Therapeutic Communication:

The nurse should maintain therapeutic communication with the patient for the effective treatment process. The nurse uses some specific techniques to maintain effective communication with the patient.

Active Listening:

It is one of the essential parts in communication where the nurse has to listen to the client's words attentively in the process of communication.

Silence: The nurse should not interfere with the client while expressing their feelings and should offer an ample amount of time for the client. The interruption will affect the therapeutic relationship.

Clarification: The nurse should enhance that the messages are conveyed correctly and the patient's doubts are clarified enough without giving any wrong assumption.

Open-ended questions: The questions asked by the nurse should always be open-ended and should concern about the patient's beliefs and rights when asking questions.

Providing Information: When providing information to the client, the nurse should focus on an only particular thing. For eg. when the nurse explains about the procedure, she focuses on only that procedure and should not miss with any other information.

Focusing: The nurse and health care team should focus on the client's health conditions and current needs by giving preference to the client's choices.

Summarizing: Summarizing of discussed information is an essential part of therapeutic communication. For e.g., if the nurse discusses with the patient about obesity management, then the nurse has to finalize the conversation by highlighting the important points of management.

Respect and Acceptance: The nurse should respect the patient's values, belief, and culture while communicating with the patient. It increases trust in the patient and builds an effective relationship.

Touch: Touch act as a sense of care in a therapeutic relationship. But the nurse should also consider the cultural allowance before using the sense of touch.

Judgment: Ethical judgment is necessary for the therapeutic relationship. The nurse should analyze the positive and negative things and be honest while taking good ethical judgment.
